Fat Quarter Dress Guide
This is a guide to creating a loose fitting, tiered dress with pockets. There is also a hack to add frills and inserted pockets.
This PDF is 14 pages and has photos and illustrations.
I am often lured in by fat quarters because of the beautiful colours of fabric bundled together. I’d pick them up and then never find a use for them. Until now!
With 10 - 14 fat quarters, draft and make yourself a colourful dress of dreams!
Fat Quarters vary slightly in size, based on the width of the fabric, but typically they measure 18 by 22 inches (45cm x 55cm) when the fabric is cut by yards or 50cm x 55cm (19.6 x 22.6 inches) when cut by metres - but there is not much in it!
You will need:
Baking Paper and Pencil
A top or dress with a round neck which fits you loosely
10 - 14 Cotton/Cotton Mix Fat Quarters - prewash on your regular settings.
4-6 metres of .5cm wide elastic
Sewing Machine
Pins
Fabrics Scissors
Tape Measure
Time: 3 - 5 hours
Abbreviations: FQ - Fat Quarter, RS - Right Side, WS - Wrong Side
Note: Use a 1.5cm seam allowance, unless otherwise stated.
This guide will help you create a loose fit, tiered dress with patch or inserted pockets and a round neck with facing to create a neat neckline.
A hack at the end includes inserted pockets and adding frills to the sleeves!
Perfect to wear however you like!
