In June 2017 Ed started a very ridiculous Art project which we are now about to embark on for the third time.
It is the pom pom election map. You can see his Stat Stitching account here.
We, and an amazing group of people from all over the UK made a load of pom poms so my partner Ed could create a Pom Pom election Map.
Ed plots the constituencies of the UK: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and creates a huge map. Then as the election results come in we place a pom pom to represent the winner of that constituencies.
The Pom Pom election map was inspired by our friend Tom Katsumi who in May 2015 Cross Stitched the results as they came in. In you are not familiar with the UK voting systems, this happens over night and rapidly at times.
Ed and I came up with the idea of the pom pom election map after having an accidental boozey lunch and thinking yes, yes that seems like a good way to keep pre elections nerves and anxiety at bay by doing what we do best and by crafting through it.
Over the years the constituency bounderies have changed so Ed has had to rework and design the map to keeps it recognisable shape of the UK.
This year the general election takes place on Thursday 4th July.
First: Make sure you have registered to vote and you have relevant ID or arranged a postal vote, if needed.
Second: WE NEED POM POMS.
We are looking for lots of 1 inch 2.5cm pom poms in red and blue.
You can do these and post them to us or pop along to see me at The Corp Market in Canton, Cardiff and we can get making.
Send me a messages and I'll send over the information or answer any questions you have.
We are currently in talks with where we will be hosting the Pom Pom Election Map on the evening of Thursday 4th July, but wherever we host it, we will be sure to live stream for your viewing pleasure.
